Valve has furnished SteamOS and Steam Deck gaming handhelds with another set of improvements. All contained within new Steam Deck Beta Client updates, the bug fixes touch various aspects of SteamOS, including its dedicated Desktop Mode.

SteamOS Refinements

SteamOS has received another round of refinements through new Steam Deck Beta Client updates. February has seen the arrival of SteamOS 3.5.14, 3.5.15, and 3.5.16, along with a series of previous Steam Deck Beta Client updates. While the Beta development branch has been bustling with activity, the stable counterpart has remained relatively quiet, with the last Steam Deck Client Update dating back to mid-December.

According to the Steam Deck News Hub, Valve has rolled out two Beta Client updates to the Steam Deck in quick succession. These updates, although addressing a few issues individually, collectively bring about numerous changes and enhancements for the Steam Deck and Steam OLED. Notably, gaming handhelds enrolled in Valve’s Beta Program should now display controller mode settings page styling correctly after applying the latest updates.

Bug Fixes and Improvements

Valve claims to have fixed an issue where user avatars in the title bar would momentarily revert to default during startup. Additionally, the updates include five ‘general’ fixes for various problems, such as the friends list not displaying when a friend is selected. The combined changelogs for both updates include:

General Fixes:

  • Fixed EULA dialog extending off the screen
  • Resolved creation of erroneous steamwebhelper processes when steamwebhelper crashes
  • Addressed friends list not showing which friend was selected
  • Fixed on-screen text input to display the game in the background
  • Corrected some Steam chat views not indicating the selected item

Desktop Mode:

  • Fixed user avatar in title bar momentarily switching back to default during startup

Steam Input:

  • Fixed styling of the controller mode settings page

Valve’s continuous efforts to enhance the Steam Deck and SteamOS demonstrate their commitment to providing a seamless gaming experience for users. With these latest bug fixes and improvements, players can expect a smoother and more refined gameplay environment on their handheld devices.
