As I stepped into the bustling halls of Computex 2024, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. The world of handheld gaming is rapidly evolving, and I was eager to get my hands on the latest innovations. Among the sea of exhibitors, one device caught my attention - the Zotac Zone.

The Zotac Zone: A powerful device with a stunning screen

My first impressions of the Zone were overwhelmingly positive. The 7-inch AMOLED 1080p touch-screen is a marvel, boasting a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 800 nits brightness. Even in the brightly lit environment of the exhibition hall, the screen shone like a beacon, showcasing vibrant colors and impressive contrast.

“I feel that a 7-inch display and 1080p resolution is in the sweet spot for a gaming handheld. 1440p is not necessary at this size. I’ll take smoother gameplay and higher FPS over greater pixel density.”

The Zone’s controls are equally impressive, featuring hall effect joysticks and 2-stage triggers, as well as radial dials. Although I experienced some issues with the vertical look during my test, I was pleased with the overall feel of the joysticks and triggers.

While the device’s finish felt slightly plasticky, it was rigid enough to withstand minor bumps and twists. Considering the expected $800 price tag, I’m willing to forgive the lack of premium materials.

Zotac also showcased a range of accessories, including a docking station with HDMI, USB Type-A, and Type-C support. A carry case will also be available, ensuring that your Zone remains safe and stylish on-the-go.

As I reflect on my experience with the Zotac Zone, I’m left wondering - can it outshine the competition, particularly the Steam Deck OLED? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the Zone’s stunning screen and innovative controls make it a force to be reckoned with in the world of handheld gaming.
