The Asus ROG Ally X: A Handheld Gaming Powerhouse?

Asus is gearing up to unveil its latest handheld gaming PC, the ROG Ally X, at Computex 2024. And if the latest rumors are to be believed, this device is set to pack a punch. With a reported 24GB of RAM, the ROG Ally X is looking to outmuscle its competitors, including the Steam Deck.

The Asus ROG Ally X: A beast of a handheld gaming PC

But what does this mean for gamers? Is 24GB of RAM really necessary for a handheld gaming device? I’m not so sure. Don’t get me wrong, more RAM is always a good thing, but on a device that’s primarily designed for gaming at 1080p or lower resolutions, it seems like overkill.

A Bigger Battery, But at What Cost?

One area where the ROG Ally X is looking to improve is battery life. With a reported eight hours of battery life, this device is looking to outlast its competitors. But at what cost? The price tag for the ROG Ally X is set to be a hefty $799, making it $100 more expensive than its predecessor.

The ROG Ally X’s battery life is looking promising, but is it worth the cost?

The Verdict

While the ROG Ally X is looking like a powerful device, I’m not convinced that it’s worth the price tag. With the Steam Deck OLED currently leading the charge on battery life, it’s hard to see why anyone would opt for the ROG Ally X. But hey, I could be wrong. Maybe the extra RAM and improved battery life will make all the difference.

The Steam Deck OLED: Still the king of handheld gaming PCs?

Only time will tell. Until then, I’ll be keeping a close eye on the ROG Ally X and its competitors. Who knows, maybe Asus will surprise us with something truly innovative.
