The wait is finally over, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II has arrived on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC. This highly anticipated game is a visual masterpiece, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in modern gaming. But can handheld gaming devices like the ASUS ROG Ally, Steam Deck, and Lenovo Legion Go handle the graphical demands of Hellblade II?

Gaming on the go

The answer is yes, but it depends on the handheld device and the settings you’re willing to compromise on. I put Hellblade II to the test on my ASUS ROG Ally, and here’s what I found out.

The Challenge of Running Hellblade II on Handheld Devices

Hellblade II is a graphically demanding game, and it requires a powerful gaming PC to run smoothly. The ASUS ROG Ally, with its AMD Z1 Extreme processor, can run Hellblade II, but it’s only enjoyable with the 25W Turbo mode enabled. You’ll have to make some sacrifices to get the game to run, but it’s possible to have a good playing experience on handheld devices.

Tweaking Settings for a Smooth Experience

To get Hellblade II running on my ASUS ROG Ally, I had to tweak some settings. First, I allocated more RAM for gaming by following these seven ways to improve the ASUS ROG Ally. This allowed me to enable AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 3, which massively improves performance by running the game at a lower native resolution and then upscaling it to the target resolution.

I also kept all the AMD-specific gaming features enabled, such as Radeon Super Resolution, Radeon Anti-Lag, and Radeon Boost. By setting the game to the lowest graphics preset and enabling FidelityFX Super Resolution 3, I was able to achieve a stable 30 frames-per-second (FPS).
