The wait is finally over for Steam Deck enthusiasts! Nvidia has made it easier to use its GeForce Now game streaming service on Valve’s handheld gaming PC. This update is a significant step forward, as it eliminates the need for tedious workarounds to access GeForce Now on the Steam Deck.

A Simpler Way to Access GeForce Now

Until now, accessing GeForce Now on the Steam Deck required switching to Desktop Mode, firing up a browser window, and streaming games through it. However, Nvidia has updated its GeForce Now download page with a new Steam Deck (BETA) download link. This link downloads an applet that automatically adds a link to GeForce Now in your Steam Deck library, alongside your other Steam games.

The new applet is essentially a custom Google Chrome shortcut that’s automatically configured for gamepad support and optimal game streaming on the Steam Deck. This update also brings gamepad support for browsing, making it easier to navigate the app.

Still a Work in Progress

While this update is a significant improvement, it’s still a beta version. Nvidia has provided a detailed help document outlining multiple ways to install GeForce Now on Steam Deck, including methods for setting it up manually. The document also offers useful tips and tricks for optimizing the GeForce Now experience on the Steam Deck.

Optimizing Your Experience

For an optimal experience, Nvidia recommends tweaking some settings. For instance, some games require enabling gamepad input within their in-game settings menus before you can play using the Deck’s pad. Genshin Impact is a notable example, and Nvidia suggests progressing far enough in the game on another device with a keyboard and mouse before playing on the Steam Deck.

The Future of Cloud Gaming on Steam Deck

While this update brings us closer to seamless cloud gaming on the Steam Deck, there’s still more work to be done. Nvidia’s efforts are a significant step forward, but we’re not quite there yet. As the technology continues to evolve, we can expect a more streamlined experience in the future.
