Ayn’s New Handheld: Filling the Void Left by Sony’s PSP
Ayn Technologies, the company behind the excellent Ayn Odin 2 handheld, has revealed its latest creation: a new gaming handheld that’s reminiscent of the PlayStation Portable (PSP). This new device is a departure from the Odin 2, with a focus on filling the niche left by Sony’s beloved portable console.
A New Challenger Approaches
The upcoming handheld weighs in at 320g, making it 31% lighter than the Odin 2 and 9% lighter than the Ayaneo Pocket S. It boasts a mini-LED screen with a peak brightness of 1,100 nits, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and a 155% sRGB color gamut. While Ayn hasn’t confirmed the operating system, it’s likely to run Android, given the Odin 2’s success with the platform.

Filling the Void
The PSP was a monster in sales, reaching 80.79 million units sold globally, with the highest-selling title being Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (4.6 million units). It’s no coincidence that Ayn’s new handheld bears a striking resemblance to the PSP, targeting those who want to play smaller-scale titles and enjoy solid emulation options for retro games.
The PSP was a massive success, and Ayn’s new handheld aims to fill the void left by Sony’s portable console.
A New Era for Handheld Gaming?
While the new handheld’s smaller size might mean a performance hit, its ability to play indie titles, AA games, and emulated retro games at a reasonable price could make it a huge hit with gamers. This could be the start of a new era for handheld gaming, one that fills the niche left by Sony’s PSP.
The future of handheld gaming looks bright, with Ayn’s new handheld leading the charge.
